Meaning in the Morning Routine

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

Alarm goes off. 10 AM. I’m groggy + grumpy + tired from staying up till 2am on Netflix or texting or scrolling Instagram. I hit snooze + sleep 10 more minutes. I wake up MORE groggy than before. I drag myself out of bed + start the day in a slump. That’s what my mornings were like for YEARS until making a change...

I’m always asked how I changed my routine/lifestyle + ESPECIALLY how I get up early. It was NOT overnight... but it was SIMPLE. Any new habit you want to build can be done, but it takes action... especially when you don't feel like it. It took a few weeks of DISCIPLINED daily actions to start to change. Here are my top tips + I hope they help!

1) Before hitting snooze... count back “5 4 3 2 1” + just GET UP!!! Stop waiting to “feel like it” bc that’s not going to happen. You have to make the change regardless + just START!

2) Don’t check your texts or social media. Why start your day flooded w useless info, sad news reports, 100 snap stories from last night, or stressful “to-dos”? Make some coffee, sit down, + have some time for YOU (I pray + read my devotional to start)

3) Write down 5-10 things you’re thankful for! This primes you to remember + look for silver linings all day long! I usually journal a little if I have things on my mind/heart.

4) Choose a book + read!! Not any book...but something in the personal development realm. I promise that 10-15 pages a day will CHANGE your life (I have a list of favs: https://www.amazon.com/shop/alaina.hamade) There’s always room to grow/learn/heal something in your life.

Don’t view it as a chore or a checklist... Your morning routine should refresh you, energize you, + set you up for an amazing, fulfilling, + inspired day! It should include being peaceful, setting intention, cultivating joy, + growing YOU.

Bottom line: every new habit takes discipline + discomfort at first. Will it be easy to start getting up early rather than laying in bed or hitting snooze? Probably not at first, but the way you START your day can revolutionize your entire life. Start slow! 15, 30, 45 minutes earlier. Baby steps! My morning routine centers me, sets me up for success, + was TOTALLY KEY in changing my lifestyle. After you nail the waking up part, you can even start to add in exercise to your routine.

If you don’t have a morning routine... try to “5 4 3 2 1” yourself out of bed + start your day. You can seriously start to change your life JUST by changing how you start your day! If you’re gonna rise you might as well SHINE, babe! 😉☀️
